The murder was meticulously planned in advance and De Marco also planned on torturing the couple, which he didn't eventually.

Realistically mate it's very unlikely these days that you could commit a murder like this and get away with it. In order to prepare a crime scene in order to have a reasonable chance of not leaving evidence would probably give you away. In this case he was known to the victims and it was evident to multiple people that they didn't get on well - its really going to be a choice between him and a few ex-boyfriends and maybe a stalker. If they had looked close enough they would have found hair or fibre evidence that at least ruled them out.

I can't believe some of these people bother - they do a half arsed job of trying to cover it up but they might as well not have bothered at all. They were always going to get caught. Serial killers do have some degree of success evading detection because their connection to the victim isn't readily apparent meaning the evidence left isn't of particular use. Especially if its some jack-ass local police department who end up investigating but even a lot of them get busted eventually when the crimes are tied together and the FBI or a murder squad with lots of information and resources. Most serial killers normally have a childhood history of "issues" that were recorded or known about.

So basically what I'm saying to murdercels out there is don't bother. You will get caught - only a handful of highly intelligent serial killers and organised criminals get away with it these days and mostly its "stranger murders".
