I'm in my early twenties and this year I bought Yamaha P45 keyboard and books that were recommended from the soyboys on r/piano so i've been going through the beginner book. I can pick up pieces decently fast, i've seen comments from YT tutorials of pieces from the book of people taking up to 3 weeks to learn a piece that I learnt in 2 hours but I wanna learn classical music then jazz if its possible

i haven't got a teacher because 1. I know they'll despise me for being an adult trying to learn piano so i'll never have a proper learning experience and, 2. i have severe social anxiety so i'm learning this on my own

is it worth pursuing this as a hobby? and can anyone give advice on how to learn faster?

What do you mean with "worth it"? Do it if you enjoy it, but don't expect to become a professional piano player or to get pussy just because you can play piano.

Makes no sense. They’re getting payed so it shouldn’t concern them what the student does with his hobby, their only focus should be setting goals for their student to help them reach the next level and making sure they have good enough practice schedule to reach those goals. If you have no intentions of quitting you shouldn’t worry :feelsokman:
I see, I definitely don't have intentions of quitting although I do get the occasional depressive moment where I contemplate why i never learnt as a child
Learn music theory. Some players never go beyond performing pieces. Good if you want to write your own songs and play/improvise
Thought you wrote theatrical side, jfl, I do learn music theory abit, I actually like learning the theory behind it and I'm always learning pieces via reading scores instead of synthesia for example (i've never used synthesia) so I guess that's a plus

Do you have any good resources for music theory?

piano is stupid bs cope :feelstastyman:

Yeah, I do enjoy learning it. It is fucking suicide inducing that you can never become a professional player unless you started as a child though jfl

it probably is but I don't want to look back when i'm 30 (assuming I make it to that age) regretting not having decent hobby

just play video games bro :feelsUgh:

Thats why I do Steve Vais 30 hour practice. I started at 19 so have to make up for that time :feelsrope:
I'd be practising much longer everyday but finishing off my undergrad thesis atm so I only learn 1 score from the book until I'm competent at it then move to the next score for like 30min-1h a day. And yeah I have that feeling always of wanting to make the time back.
I don’t you can probBly find recommendations from fags on soyddit
Jfl, I guess so. 1 thing they always go on about is posture when playing so I'll have to get a teacher for that soon, although i wish I didn't have to
What do you mean by professional?
I think to the point of finding a viable job with consistent income i.e. teacher OR a concert pianist, but that's genuinely impossible starting at my age ofc

Yeah I heard about that on amazon reviews. I bought schmitt preparatory exercises but i'll buy czemy's too, thanks

@Intent
Since you guys play piano do you have any recommendations for a keyboard with organ presets :waitwhat: I’ve been considering getting into playing since many guitar players(Shawn Lane, EVH notably) have said it helped with their guitar playing. Looking for something sub $1000 new or used

Something like this sound but without having to fork out the money for a Hammond

I don't know much about keyboards and organs, just pianos

Go for it bro its a good way to cope:feelsautistic:let us know your progress
I have social anxiety too so i can understand, youtube is good way to start, many online courses too,ill research and let you know

Define "worth it." Do you mean if it's going to be a productive use of your time or a complete waste? Do you mean if it's going to help you ascend? What do you mean?

Thanks for the encouragement bro :feelsokman: ill upload my progress here occasionally. Let me know how the research goes :feelsLSD:

i have been music coping lately, and i can say it is worth it,since it does distract the man from much.a mind unoccopied, will usually turn to porn, food, drugs, alcohol, shit copes, etc etc, and avoiding any of that is good in my books so yeah.

No, it's not to ascend. I can comfortably say nothing I do will help me ascend, jfl :feels:. But yes, I was originally asking if it's a productive use of time, even if there's a point in my learning that i can't pass so i'll be stuck an amateur cause of how late I started

Nice bro, what type of music or instrument do you cope with?

Ngl, I was thinking of doing the same, but as a personal challenge just to see if I could learn the instrument to an acceptable level.

I say just fucking do it and see how much progress you make.

If its a good cope then sure

i am really new to music cope, but i have been coping with an mpc and music production in general.i know some won't consider an mpc an instrument, but that is honestly cope considering how much you can do with them and now some mpcs even give you synths, bass etc etc.

in terms of "real" instruments that most people consider intrusments,i am going to see if i can learn a piano soon, and hope i learn something.

i am an incredibly lazy neet,so i learn everything very slowly, but even then it has been fun, even though i suck at it.

Some pro players have never taken lessons and just know how to naturally play

You should play the xylophone

Lmao you wasted your youth on god knows what and you wish to retrieve the wasted time doing what you should have done earlier?????
You are not going to learn, unless you are extremely autistic and have incredibly high IQ, you doing that sounds like cope.
At this rate it's just the rope.
Read about neuroplasticity.
