I still get nostalgic for a fucking video game when I hear the soundtrack of one I played which I liked. For instance, games like fallout 3, if I hear one of the radio songs I get good memories of playing it when I was younger. It makes me feel good because I remember how fun and intriguing playing them was back then, a general feeling of awe and interest. The fact most of memories like that are from video games and not from real life milestones or events says it's all though, jfl.

My entire childhood was spent playing Sonic The Hedgehog and Roblox. Fucking lol I'm such a cringe reject.

I remember my uncles telling me that video games get less interesting as you get older... they were right
They were some of my favorite copes in my youth even though I didn't have access to the right hardware or money to buy games
My only wish is that I could have spent more of my youth playing them when they were actually fun
My ideal life is ldaring from birth and dying once I got bored

Same. I have great memories of wandering through the wilderness in oblivion and skyrim.

there's just no point in playing a game. Why?? So I can die and try again?? So I can buy DLC and wear new upgrades?? It's just a low dopamine experience. Youtube pretty much ruined games-- there's no more secrets. It used to be you had to read video game magazines, and there was uncertainty and excitement about upcoming games.

It used to be that you had to be an established company with experienced professionals making games. There used to be a general consensus on good taste in a video game-- a lot of things back then were inspired by violent anime in the 90s. Now too many games are made by ragtag cells of script kiddie tokenized PC steampunk weebs using templates to regurgitate blizzard shit but more furry and quirky- with waaay too many out-of-place characters that don't even fit in the overall unifying game aesthetic.

I can see a point in playing a game irl but not thru a screen. However, I do think porn video games are underrated as an idea. Problem is there are no real good porn games.

The mysterious magic that came from games as a child can never be replicated
we'll never have this ever again
My most erotic memories were actually before I started puberty
I would've started fucking at 8 yrs old if I could

Same thing with me. I also get nostalgic when I hear old video game music. The only times I have been genuinely happy was while playing video games

Or artifical memories based on tv shows or long running cartoon series. Nothing really fully human and low tech to point to. Beside mayb gardenmaxxing.

same thing, fallout 3 made me socialize with other kids who were playing it, comfy memories. Pure nostalgia.

I also remember my father playing silent hill the room when i was a toddler, he was slaying those scary monsters like a god :feelsPop:

Listen to the soundtrack of Mario Games and certain movies from my childhood from time to time.

Yes tbh. Still remember Super Mario Galaxy Games and Mario and Luigi Games as my best childhood memories. Then later I stopped playing video games and my memories as a teenager/young adult mostly revolve around various animals, for example that I once saw certain fish in zoo shops in my vicinity (like a very small Channa micropeltes, a Tetraodon mbu or Hydrolycus/Hydrocynus sp.) or as I saw esculapian snakes in nature for the first time, nearly fell down a hillside while looking for it and injured my hand by doing so. Sadly these times are over, when you go to zoo shops/aquariums nowadays you just see the same shit like guppies and neons. A few years ago life seemed so much brighter and it seemed like freedom existed nowadays everything feels like shit.

Gardenmaxxing sounds fun, which plants do you like/keep?

Occasionally I am thinking about buying carnivorous plants again, was successful with Drosera/Dionaea/Sarracenia as a teenager, but stopped it as an adult. I have read some books about them and have very fond memories of mine. I also like the Cephalotus especially because it's difficult to keep and want to own Heliamphora/Darlingtonia one day for their aesthetic value alone.
I also like Roridula which catches insects but doesn't digest them - many other animals like mites/spiders eat those caught animals and then defacate on the plant which is useful manure for it, also very difficult to keep. One of my favorite memories as a child was seeing Drosera (probably rotundifolia) in the dunes on the side of a boardwalk, I also live a few kilometers away from a moor where they occur naturally, but sadly never found one. A documentary influenced me very much to start with them.

I also like aquatic plants and think of designing aquaria/terraria/glasshouses often, in the last few weeks I read about aquatic spiders, one guy kept them in aquaria with an aesthetically pleasing stock of plants (like Lemna/Pistia) and guppies as an occasional food source. I also like outside enclosures for different snakes (especially European vipers). Btw when you like plants/animals I recommend you Abronia - these aboricol alligator lizards can be kept in aesthetically pleasing enclosures with Tillandsias, Bromelias and Mosses, look at the enclosures in the video for example:
LA PLUS BELLE REPTILE-ROOM DE FRANCE ?-TOOPET - YouTube
Btw Abronia is also the name of a plant genus. It comes from habros which means delicate.
My entire childhood was spent playing Sonic The Hedgehog and Roblox. Fucking lol I'm such a cringe reject.
Brutal.

It's a meme from iwh but gardenmaxxing can legit be a good pastime.
Tropical plants can only be grown in the summer outside of frost season obviously (unless you live in the tropics) but there are more crops like spinach, broccoli, carrots, pumpkins, potatoes and onions that can be grown in cooler conditions as long as it isn't too damp and there aren't regular hard freezes.

It's fun pushing the boundaries of what you can grow ngl

Yes. It's an incredibly good cope, also want to start with mycology but I am to lazy for it.

Spent much of my youth in so-called poison gardens where many extremely poisonous plants are kept - like Digitalis/Aconitum.

I also like searching for poisonous plants in nature - in the sommer months I always love to see the deadly nightshade (Atropa belladonna), which is very common where I live. It's species epithet literally means "beautiful woman" which comes from Atropin - a parasympatholytic alkaloid- which was used by women to enlargen their pupils in order to appear more beautiful (today it's used by doctors and many also store it because it can be used as an antidote in the case of a chemical attack). I enjoy reading about plants and their toxins.

In autumn I especially like the meadow saffron which you can easily recognize because it has a different amount of stamina than a crocus, it contains colchicin which completely fucks up the microtubuli (if animals eat it it can enter their milk and when you as a human then drink the milk you can get cancer, it is also used to cause polyploidization in plants and in cellular research).

I also spent days in nature to search plants which I like, this year I found many holoparasites (=parasites that cannot survive without a host) like the toothwort/broomrape/bird's nest orchid, I also found the hemiparasitic rattle very often, last year I found many toadstools and the blue monkshood (albeit in a white color variant). Apart from poisonous/parasitic plants I also like carnivorous plants and marsh orchids. Botany in the field is a hobby of mine. Looking forward to spring because the toothwort can be seen again.

Interesting tbh. Never grew my own food, but it sounds funny. Mostly kept carnivorous plants.

Mycology is related to fungi and mushrooms right? Interesting ngl

Foxgloves? Yeah they grow well in low lying cool woodlands like you find in the UK and EE @ShySaxon @The Abyss @Darkenzo @To koniec

Many medicinal uses for plants even if they aren't trees. Trees are more interesting imo than perennial shrubbery unless you are talking about plants in the Arctic tbh

Still cannot tell the difference between meadows and grasslands ngl
I think meadows are like grasslands but with more heterogeneity of plant species and wildflowers interspersed

Imo from an aesthetic points of view meadows > grasslands.

All these relationships between organisms whether it's commensal or parasitic are indeed really delicate. Throw one thing out of balance and the whole system can collapse and settle into a new state.
Interesting tbh. Never grew my own food, but it sounds funny. Mostly kept carnivorous plants.
I think of growing plants and crops more in terms of food more than aesthetics tbhngl otherwise it's just another task.
Carnivorous plants can invoke a primal fear and curiosity in humans but beside venus flytraps haven't taken too much of an interest in that.

Now they just remind me im rotting.

Mycology is related to fungi and mushrooms right? Interesting ngl
Yes. Sadly almost nothing is offered in education in that regard. Have read some books as a child, but mostly forgot about it. Also lichens are interesting, because they are not a single organism but rather a symbiosis between algae/cyanobacteria and fungi.

Yes, trees are very interesting. Really shocking how many cannot tell different conifers apart tbh although it's so incredibly easy when you think about it. Enjoy walking in the woods, a few days ago I saw a huge tumour in a tree at a very high altitude on the trunk, was caused by Agrobacterium (a bacterium that is able to transfer its T-DNA into plants and genetically manipulate them for its own advantage). Galls/cecidia are also interesting - there is a separate branch of science called cecidology for that.

And plants are very, very important for medical/pharmaceutical purposes due to their secondary metabolism. Really interesting what they can do and almost unlimited potential.

Tbh only semantics probably, but didn't know the difference either. Especially like the moors or the mountains.

Yes. Incredibly interesting. The Bird's Nest orchid especially because it's epiparasitic, it parasitizes the mycorrhiza (symbiotic fungi) and therefore indirectly the plant itself - it's called mycoheterotrophy.
I think of these things in terms of food more than aesthetics tbhngl
Understandable. Hope you enjoy it, man.

Was a few years ago deeply into them, but today I am know only the absolute basics.

Lichens are interesting for sure. Give a nice coloration to otherwise bare rocks and are common in very extreme environments like dry polar deserts not covered by ice or just deserts overall like the Atacama Desert @Mainländer
Yes. Also many keep them in their gardens here. Have only seen them in gardens tbh.
I assume they are just meant as ornamentals then.

After millions of years of evolution there are still so many fungi and diseases transmitted by insects can kill trees easily. It's a shame. Same with things like rot or damage to roots spurring quick death of trees. Grass is more resilient and faster growing than trees which is why if weather changes are as bad as expected it's going to be grass and shrubs that triumph over trees. That includes a lot of invasive grass and shrubs like honeysuckle, asiastic bittersweet vines, cheatgrass and so much more.

Open stands of conifer trees and little undergrowth of shrubs is underrated tbh possibly a very common ice age type environment in places that trees did grow because conifers are common in colder drier areas.
And plants are very, very important for medical/pharmaceutical purposes due to their secondary metabolism. Really interesting what they can do and almost unlimited potential.
Yup. Always more to be discovered when it comes to plants and their uses imo.

I see.

Yeah it makes for good escapism to read about those things.

That happens sometimes tbh. You remember the main ideas but forget the more specific details.

Lmao yeah i have thought this before. Chad childhood memories are on par with that "15 and in love" greentext. My memories are 24 hour runescape marathons in 2005

Reminder the OP is 6’5

Rapelay was the best one tbh, they need to do an HD remake with more features and scenes for the movie maker

Not only that but what keeps me excited is when a new game releases. I have nothing to look forward to in real life.

One of my fondest memories is literally this. November, late autumn. 17:00-18:00 pm, so it's cold, dark and lonely outside. My brother and I are home alone, mom has still not returned from work. NES/Dendy cartridges and cables are scattered all around the floor. The light in the living room is turned off because we looked that up in some videogame magazine and thought it was cool. The only light that is on is from the TV and in the kitchen (because it's scary to stay in the dark for too long). We are playing Chip and Dale 2. The game itself is all in japanese so we don't understand a single word. We've figured out that there's a level selection screen shown right now and we are trying to remember the order of the stages prestented to sort out the easiest stuff first.
there's just no point in playing a game. Why?? So I can die and try again?? So I can buy DLC and wear new upgrades?? It's just a low dopamine experience. Internet has ruined everything. Tbh it doesnt matter still. It's all surrogate of real life. Whatever good there was in video games is far outclassed by real human experiences that we lack. Killing bunch of polygons on the screen vs hanging out with friends and fucking hot girls, hmmm so much of a tough choice to make.

Listen to the soundtrack of Mario Games and certain movies from my childhood from time to time.
I like listening to Minecraft soundtracks

Soundtracks from playing Sonic 2, Earthworm Jim 1 and 2, Duke Nukem (on PC), Mortal Kombat Trilogy, Twisted Metal 1 and 2, 2Xtreme, Street Sk8ter, Resident Evil 1, Bushido Blade, WWF Attitude, Die Hard Trilogy, Vectorman, Street Fighter Alpha gives me extreme nostalgia from the mid-late 90s. I was a happy, bluepilled negro kid then. Had goals and dreams of becoming a engineer/Train conductor (I had a love for trains as a kid) and then as a teen I wanted to become a video game tester/developer. My Highschool experience turned me into a misanthrope with no goals and no future.

My fondest memories were of my childhood, even if it wasn't as good as the average.

They sure are good memories playing Mario kart on the SNES and Gamecube.

Video games and some movies. They could provide me with a certain sense of euphoria sometimes.

Within the past 12 years, pretty much, tbh. I've had fond memories of games around since when I was born, but mostly within the past 12 years, it has become more prevalent.

Miss how pre-2013 games used to be, too. Mostly unpozzed and uncucked, fuck 90% of modern games, they suck dick.

Absolutely yes.
From the first Quake to Half Life, the whole Far Cry series to Sniper Elite you name it.
Bad thing is I've finished them and no new games have come out that are worth playing.

Made more friends on GTA 5 driving around doing funny shit than I ever even talked to people in real life. I made so many friends on GTA i maxed my friends list. Guess howmany i have IRL lol

The only camaraderie i ever experienced was with my crew of niggas on DayZ or GTA when we would fuck other niggas up and everyone would be laughing even the guys getting fucked up because shit was good and fun and we were all bros of the internet and loneliness

I have good memories of video games. I remember driving on the side walk in gta san andreas and I remember playing resident evil 4 for the first time

tbh

Not necessarily games but I've spent all my time in front of the computer. And yes I get very nostalgic. I actually back up my browsing history every 6 months or so because the sites i've visited and my searched are a good indication of what I've been doing at the time and will bring back a lot of memories. My life will be forgotten if I don't do that because all my memories are virtual and I don't have anything tangible to remember them by.

I remember celebrating my incel friends 18th birthday by trolling in BF3 with him. Good times.

Since elementary, I virtually have no memories that aren't virtual. Pun intended.
