title, i need to add a new cope among the plethora that i partake in already

Death note was my first anime , it was very interesting so I would say that

Outlaw stars great if you like space stuff

Also, check out elemental gelade or inuyasha if you want a good vs evil, travelling fantasy, romance series

My first anime was either Sonic X or Pokemon but those are mainly for children. Perhaps you should watch Madoka Magica

I've really been enjoying Golden Kamuy the past three days because I'm a historycel. I saw a documentary like 5 years ago about the colonization of Hokkaido by the Japs and then the thought came into my head the other day that I recalled an anime about that. A Russo-Japanese war vet goes to Hokkaido to hunt for treasure and recruits a little Ainu foid as his guide as he looks for some criminals with a treasure map tattooed on their bodies. Hokkaido just looks quite comfy to me.

If you are not going to read the manga I would say Evangelion or Monster would be good ones I would recommend watching

Monster is very good. Also, I just finished Berserk 1997. I think Griffith is pretty baste.

Yeah Berk is peak I’d recommend reading the manga

I definitely would like to when I get my hands on some hard copies. I have a hard time reading comics on my laptop, not sure why. It's just all zoomed in and shit and just is less comfy. But I might request hard copies as interlibrary loans. As the weather improves I've been getting drunk and reading in the park most afternoons.

I just read manga on my phone though weebcentral

I like that he raped somebody (potentially two somebodies, the princess and the brownoid groid-foid) and became the Head Nigger in Charge master of the realm after sacrificing the normbots and consensual sex-havers.

Try Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor, you will be probable relate with the character.

If you're a Sci-Fi fan Cowboy Bebop is classic first anime choice. Space Dandy, which was created by a lot of the same people as Cowboy Bebop is also excellent. Even though Space Dandy is a comedy to some degree it has proper hard Sci-Fi elements in it.

I never understood why Death Note is such a common recommendation for someones first anime. It is an excellent series but you have to be a particular type of person to enjoy it. For a general audience I think that something like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood or Naruto would be the best recommendations.

@iblamemyself_0 I also want to mention that if you would prefer a single cour/13 episodes long anime series to begin with Odd Taxi is an extremely solid series.

i appreciate all the tips and suggestions brocel, i’ll probably start with something more subdued and relatively short to see whether im a potential anime fan or not

Whatever you do, I heavily recommend sticking with action/shonen shit and avoiding any tranime or moe/waifubait shit you may get recommended in here. I say that as someone who has indulged in that kind of anime myself; it’s a pipeline that leads to nothing good. ESPECIALLY for incels

Here are some anime I consider incel friendly

1. Vinland saga
2. Overlord
3. Naruto shippuden
4. Shield hero season 1

Death note is not incel friendly but it’s good anyways

Ping Pong the Animation is another great short series which ought to work for a first-time viewer. It is a show that anyone who appreciates a good story should enjoy, much the same as Odd Taxi. But shows like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood and Naruto are more representative of anime as a whole. If you exclude all the shows that are purely about waifus, that is. There is no right answer for a first anime though, you can pick whichever one interests you most first. Some things are going to be strange if you're not too familiar with Japanese culture or animated media, but getting used to that can be part of the fun. Overall it's important to remember that anime and manga are storytelling mediums rather than genres, so don't be too quick to write it all off if you end up having a bad time with your first show. In reality there are anime and manga series for most anyone, it might just take you a little longer to find them.

i'll approach it cautiously then

noted, however, i might not give naruto a shot due to its extensiveness

im deeply familiar with japanese culture, in fact im quite fond of it, im drawn to its peculiar aspects and the unique oddness it emits, furthermore, whenever i consume any form of media i strive to be extremely objective and commit to it until im certain that it isn't for me

As others have said, Death Note is a brilliant first anime. I wouldn’t start with Berserk or whatever others have said because they’re generally pretty extreme anime to get into, but Death Note hits that spot between edgy and cool.

“This is the first time in my life I’ve been provoked to hit a woman.” - light yagami

But if you want to watch shorter animes, maybe
- the tunnel to sommer
- anohana
- a silent voice
all semi niche animes wich were one of my firsts

holy normalfag

Naruto is as stupidly long as it is stupidly good. You could give an episode or two a chance, it might surprise you. I'd say it's Babylon 5-tier, in case that's a series you've watched and enjoyed haha.

In that case there ought to be more than a few series in store for you that you would enjoy. By the nature of being cartoons and comics anime and manga are of course going to show a somewhat different perspective of what Japan, and Japanese culture is like though. I'll throw out one last recommendation, I promise this is going to be the last one. If you like the Edo Period in Japan the single-season 12 episode series Saraiya Goyou/House of Five Leaves might be something for you. It has an all adult cast and there's loads of talking, similar appeal to something like the 2024 Shogun series I'd say. It takes its time but the story is quite gripping in my opinion.

Then I would recommend you not to waste your time watching anime and skip straight to shit like sopranos or whatever, honestly
Chances are that you won't like 99% of the recos of this thread

like i said, i was never drawn to this medium before so i thought about giving it a shot to reaffirm if that’s truly the case, i strive to be objective when consuming media, i’ll see how it goes

Attack on titan, best plot, not too weebish, with good characters too.
