I think it is easier choice to go to service in the military than going to prison for much longer time. I did not want to lose time and chose not to go to prison. Also, the military pays the rent here while you are there, but if one chooses to go to prison, you lose your home, no income, can't pay rent, lose all your belongings. And you are officially a criminal.
