Imagine you decided to make your own video game. I feel like you could potentially win big. Just think of people like Scott Cawthon or Toby Fox. There's only so much you could do that hasn't been done aready tho. What exactly is beating Cuphead, FNAF, Undertale and the like in terms of quality or concept?

if i got money i would do it

I am too low IQ to code, and I'm not good at drawing or creating pixel art either, it's not something you can do as anybody;
you have to be talented.

Utilize AI to your advantage

I tried to make a 2D metroidvania like Hollow Knight in Godot. I was directionless, so I quit and learned to make games with smaller projecs, and at some point I've published one on itch.io (a very short and incomplete visual novel). Then I went back to 2D side scrollers. It's too much work for one person (who also has to work a day job or lives with his parents).

Every enemy needed multiple animations (walking, stun, and one attack, minimum), each frame-by-frame animation took me hours to make (even in pixel art where it was quicker). I couldn't do it while also having to work on the coding, that I was learning from scratch, the music, and everything else. If I had a studio, monetary funding to do it fulltime, and a team handling the rest so that I could only focus on one thing (like the artists for Hollow Knight or Blasphemous, for instance), maybe I could've done it. But alone it's too much work, unless you're fine with your game turning out looking like shit like Undertale.

you have to be talented.
And it's not enough. You need time. I could learn to code and draw, but it's not enough. You need to work on a project 10 hours a day, more than a fulltime job, without getting paid, for years, with nothing to show until it's completed, if you complete it.

you have to be talented.
For the coding part you can use an engine, Youtube and Claude/ChatGPT. It's doable without talent. Copy everything from youtubers and ask AI for the stuff they don't cover.

Yeah I can see it taking a lot of time to do, just one frame of an animation can take a few minutes to make if you are inexperienced I'm guessing. You're right about it being much more doable if there were other people doing other aspects of the game, but you need to get a team of people wich is pretty hard.

If I made a game it would be some kind of beat 'em up or hack and slash game. I'm very disillusioned with gaming as a medium though, so I doubt I'd ever do it, even though I have all the necessary skills, knowledge and resources for it.

As for my game being some kind of breakout success at the level of the indie greats, I know damn well it wouldn't. I don't know anything new that would, really. Gaming is just too sour as a whole. It's not just AAA and AA companies, in my opinion there hasn't been a good indie game since 2017 either, nearly everything past that has been complete and utter troon garbage.

I would just make a Hotline Miami-based game or Hotline Miami mod. Like Bloodlife, if you've heard of it? Or I guess a more well-known top down game recently would be Intravenous. Set somewhere in the early 1990s in a fictional world, though tech resembles what was used in the 2000s to the VERY early halves of the 2010s. The country would be like the US & Canada, where it's a situation in which the American-like part had annexed Not-Canada. The city would likely be inspired by Great Lakes cities like Chicago, a little bit of Detroit and Toronto as well. You will probably play as some lowlife ne'er-do-well who goes around robbing stealing, killing and terrorizing for his own benefit, and becomes a hired gun. Similar to Claude from GTA 3. Wouldn't be much of a story, though. I'm not really much of a writer. Mostly would do it for fun because I love Hotline Miami and games similar to it.

Giga-based. Hotline Miami is the best.
