How to deal with coworker making me do his work for him?

I just got a job but my coworker always shows up hours late and I have to do his work for him. He's friends with the boss so the boss doesn't care but expects everything to still get done. Asking him nicely to show up on time hasn't worked any advice how to make him pull his weight?
