I don't see how it's similar?
Phones of similar configuration/specs inevitably look like each other anyway.
The shape/design of a phone is designed to be fairly resistant to falls, be comfortable to hold, be light enough, be thin enough to fit into pockets, be big enough for screen and the hardware, and be similar enough to mainstream phones etc etc so it does not risk market losses.

They both have that rectangular bump at the back, and Xiaomi also has that gay Liquid Glass display Apple has, but that was revealed through Apple’s Beta versions to be fair.

No clue. Probably just wanted to make it look different from the previous models.
It is because Apple is idol for chinese, they think it's luxury so companies like Xiaomi, Huawei, Honor copy Apple UI design and pretty much everything else, but for me it makes it feel cheap, tasteless.
Well every aesthetics choice has an engineering reason behind it believe.
Fair enough..but the market rewards such behavior.
R&D and design costs tons of money, and if your phone is too different you risk alienating customers.
These phones occupy a unique spot where they can be iphone-like but uses Android OS so I think they found their market.
Because china knows they can’t build shit and can only copy and might as well copy a top UI and phone design. They also seethe because even though the CCP rallies around Chinese industry and innovation everyone still buys American products because Chinese domestic companies have blank check from the government to rip you off and give you trash that catches fire.
Companies have to give trade secrets to manufacture there
