A. Not smart enough for the subject matter
B. Don't have the sheer willpower or interest at the subject matter. You will question whether or not you want to stay in the program at some point, and for most who are just looking for money, they will look for a more fulfilling job / study path like business, public work, law school, etc.

Also, if you want high paying jobs like at Microsoft or Google or something, you need to be at the top of your class in a program where your grades are often luck based because of how competitive those programs can be.

What you'll realize is that the social hierarchy doesn't go away anytime soon.

What more or less likely happens is that you'll end up a job with a starting salary of 50-70k as an engineer at a bland and boring company, and you will only get promoted if people like you / hang out with you.

If you are socially introverted and never get out of your shell, you will likely be stuck in your position.
