This is why good parents send their kids to selective schools even in areas where the non selective schools are still adequate.

It’s not the education itself that’s important (in the UK grammar schools and comprehensive schools both teach the same curriculum). It’s the students you’re with because they provide you with networking potential/ social capital.
Your classmates Chang Yao and Penelope at the grammar school is the son of professionals while your classmates at the comprehensive, Wayne and Charlene, are the kids of a doctor’s receptionist.
