Genuinely how do you live with a family that’s so much dumber than you?

Genuinely what do you do in that scenario? I can’t tell you how many times things have gone wrong because they refused to listen to me just because I’m younger than them. They’re terrible shoppers, don’t fix anything till it’s been a long ass time, are slow to buy essentials, don’t know what proper nutrition looks like, and they leave trash cans open full of food letting fruit flies fester, and then don’t even buy any traps. Anytime I close the trash can, they get mad because “muh, I don’t wanna touch the trashcan”.

I find it easy to live with people that do things that annoy me if the alternative is living somewhere with rent

buy a trash can that closes but opens when you step on a pedal, it remains close and they dont touch it, everyone wins (assuming you can buy it and replace it with no issues)

I do some research/planning so I can explain exactly why their actions are inferior to what people normally do.
For instance, in the case of the trash can, you need to explain why they have a cover to prove that keeping it open leads to worse outcomes (smell, insects, diseases) to keeping it closed (having to use some energy to open/close it).
Over a period of time, they will start changing a bit. Unfortunately in this case, humans aren't like computers, whose behavior can be changed with some clicks, so you need to remember to be patient with them.
