Guys, I think I'm going to stop gaming and do a dopamine fast.
I'm already 20 years old and I have nothing and lately I'm trying to change my life.
I want to share something that could help some of you. First I'll talk about what is dopamine and how important it is.
In the brain, dopamine functions as a neurotransmitter. It affects many aspects of your behavior, some of which include learning, motivation, and mood.
I want to show you an interesting experiment made with mice.
In the first scenario it had a normal mouse, it has an electrochemical detector in his brain and he could get as much dopamine as it wants.
The results was that it doesn't want to eat nor drink, it just wants get more and more dopamine all day because he didn't want anything, but feel pleasure and it become addicted to the dopamine.
The second scenario it had a mouse unable to synthesize dopamine (DA) and it became hypoactive and stopped feeding a few weeks after birth, but it would eat if the food was placed in his mouth, but it hadn't motivation to go after the food by itself.
Conclusion: it means that if you get too much dopamine you'll become addicted and if you don't get enough dopamine you'll not have motivation to do anything, so your dopamine level must be balanced.
The dopamine is like a drug, for example, when a person starts to drink in the first few times, he becomes drunk very easily, but along the time he will have to drink much more to become drunk. ( @FinnCel could you confirm that? )
That means that we become tolerant to dopamine like we became tolerant to drugs and you'll have to get much more dopamine in order to achieve the same effects that a smaller amount used to provide.
I'll give you an example of how important it is to do a dopamine fasting.
There are 2 kids.
A poor kid and a rich kid.
The poor kid almost doesn't have food to eat and live in a simple house and don't get many gifts, but he's happy and have much fun when he's playing with his wheel.
the rich kid every year receive a new and a better gift like an Iphone, xbox, tv and he can eat a lot of junk food and play on his playstation 4 pro anytime and every year the kid wants a better gift, but somehow the rich kid is constantly sad because he always wants a better gift and it isn't easy for him to get pleased unlike the poor kid that is much more pleased with a wheel.
as Socrates said:
"The secret of happiness, you see, is not found in seeking more, but in developing the capacity to enjoy less.”
You can see that in this scenario the poor kid has much more dopamine receptors than the rich kid that became tolerant to dopamine.
What does it all mean?
it means that if you fap, play videogames and eat junk food all day, your brain will become tolerant to dopamine and in order to get the same level of pleasure as you had before you'll need much more dopamine and when you have to study or do something that demands too much motivation, it will be a torture because you'll need much more energy and motivation and you won't have enough receptors in order to study or do something harder.
If your problem is too much dopamine, you'll need to decrease the dopamine level in your brain and doing a dopamine detox, your receptors will (reset) increase along the time.
You'll need to stop gaming, fapping, watching youtube, browsing or any coping and along the time you'll get more energy, motivation to do anything you want.
you can do 15 minutes of a task that gives you a lot of dopamine and 1 hour of a task that gives you little dopamine like 15 minutes of gaming and 1 hour of studying.
( I don't recommend. )
and now I'll talk about the Game quitters community.
Game Quitters is a community for those who want to quit playing video games and get their life back.
and they have a forum and there I'll do a daily journal telling about my dopamine detox, my routine and my journey in order to get a better life.
They even have a hobby tool lot that it gives some activities to replace gaming.
I hope this information will be useful for some of you to become more productive and happier, I just wanted to tell you that you're not alone buddy boyo
