For dbzcels: what do you think of Toyotaro's art? Is he overhated or does he deserve to be shit on?

I love DB. I read the whole og manga,Z, read through super til the Saiyan-man arc, watched and broly and finally the Superhero movie before getting slightly bored of the franchise.

I don't think he's or that he'll ever be as good as toriyama, but I don't dislike his art, at least not the manga grayscale one.

To me, his covers and coloring are catastrophic. It is charming to me in a sort of "edgy 2000's dbz art" you'd see on newgrounds or DeviantArt, but for crying out loud, he can't colour it to save his life, and even if it looks decent, I still think he often overdoes it.



It looks like someone's own high budget fan fiction, more than it does look like an official art.

I agree they look like unofficial knock off versions. As a writer tho I didn't completely hate the Moro arc which he basically did all by himself.

It has it's own swag to it, he was picked my toriyama for a reason

keep in mind he is so young and his art will keep evolving and getting better, the same was with Toriyama.

The "Early Z - OG" artstyle of Dragon Ball is after Toriyama had already been succesful with dr.slump and had been drawing for a very long time, it takes time and practice to get good, and after all Toriyama's are is so good its hard for someone to compare to him, Toyotaro does his best and the reason you see hints of "edgy" stuff and fanfic stuff, is because thats what he started out doing, he is the creator of Dragon Ball AF the fan manga that features his OC Xicor

It alright. It will never be like the old animation that they used to have but this is likely the best we'll get.

Toyo's art is good on covers but I don't really like his artstyle overall for the manga. His drawings and poses look so stiff and I don't really like the way he draws Goku's face. The guy that did the Yamcha isekai manga does a way better job at replicating Toriyama's artstyle and vibe
