The 2001 anime (more specifically the Maximum tournament) was absolute peak 10/10 and I could rewatch it infinite times.
It set the bar too high I think as the rest of the show was eh. It kept my interest long enough to complete it, something I haven’t done in years now.

Probably because all the characters were newly introduced and formidable, the power scaling was unpredictable and you didn’t know who would beat who. Later arcs definitely lost this appeal.
Another thing worth noting is how cartoonish and flashy the netflix adaptation was, when the original show was absolutely brutal and grisly.

Way better artwork and the muscle exaggeration is just insane.
Never liked the show since it looked more realistic
