Was rereading a chapter of Fellowship and thinking more critically on it than I did as a teen...
Ring is woman

I find the love/hate relationship I have with damaged women to somewhat resemble this, made me wonder if Tolkien was burying a subtle metaphor here so we could relate to Gollum better but not be able to explain why.
