Never thought of it that way but it makes sense. If there are any group of people that seem to defy the looks > everything else theory it's black males. If you are good looking as a black male but "soft" your SMV takes a hit. No such thing with tall white guys who can act however they want and still slay.
Rap has also boosted the SMV of the average black male which is why as much as a lot of them might not like rap as much as others think they do, they still don't mind the status and image boost they got out of it.
