I used to barbell bench 3x a week powerlifting style doing many things like tempo bench, pause bench and normal shit as well.
Now I’m training at home with adjustable dumbbells.
Here are some advantages/disadvantages I see:
Barbell:
+For me personally much easier to use leg drive because of the setup
+More options for setup so you can arch more or less
+-More weight can be lifted but since you are using more load for the same stimulus it’s more fatigue
Dumbbell:
+ more ROM
+less fatigue because less load
- if using standard dumbbell can’t progress as easily, you may end up with large jumps in weight
-not many setup options, I don’t have many options like barbell bench
Overall idk, if had a barbell I would do both ngl. Hard to pick for me, atleast with adjustable dumbbells. I’ll easily pick barbell bench if the dumbbell bench was done using fixed weight dumbbells.
