I've said it before and I'll say it again, this is not a popularity contest. Being a prolific user with a large number of orbiters (let's ignore the large amount of haters) is not a factor in whether the rules apply to that user.
He was also one of the most annoying ones. This whole "he was popular so he can bend the rules" thing makes no sense.
Right, but you're portraying my argument as coming from the place of 'I like him so I think he should stay'. That is never what I've said, my entire point has always been that this site will go to shit if you keep banning the quality users (and by quality users I mean those most appreciated by the members of this site, not those I personally appreciate). Rules are meant to serve the members. If the community generally don't have an issue with member x breaking some minor rule, I can't for the life of me understand why any mod in their right mind would ban that user anyway. We're not trying to forge the digital version of the magna charta here.
