Hi! I have a question that is probably best aimed at parents of young children with type 1 but I welcome answers from adults too. I am a 27 yo female. Besides t1d I also have multiple other conditions including adhd, ocd, autism, and anxiety.

I am writing today because I am wondering how you go about taking your littles to the eye doctor. I absolutely hate it as an adult, so I can’t imagine what it is like for a child with t1d, especially a toddler. I believe my fear stems from my autism and the co morbidities that come with that, but I’m not 100% sure.

The parts I hate the most?

The dilation drops
The eye puff test
Anxiety over reading the eye chart.

I’m not lying when I say that I pretty much have a panic attack when I go to the eye doctor. The last time I went 2 years ago, I was able to find a practice that did retinal imaging instead of dilation, but unfortunately that clinic stopped accepting my Medicaid insurance. I was looking into another new clinic that opened but I’m nervous because some commenters said that they still had their eyes dilated even though they offered retinal imaging. I am still on the search for a clinic that will allow me to do retinal imaging over dilation.

I did post a similar post on the autism reddit the other day but I would appreciate any tips for getting through an eye doctor appointment as a severely anxious adult when eye exams are so important for those with diabetes.

I'm t1d and the effect I had is zero sexual desire
I stopped having coom urges

Panic attacks over routine eye exams. What a privilege. Foids live in a world so devoid of real suffering where stubbing a toe is enough for a tragic, traumatic experience

The "no longer take her insurance" is a polite way to get rid of that nut job cunt.
