To get top tier CS jobs straight out of college is about the combination of IQ + grinding + luck.

Connections AT BEST will get you an interview at big tech or trading firms but that is not even guaranteed, plenty of people apply with referrals and get ghosted still.

Most people at the top companies did not get in just cause they knew someone.
