anyone else reading Hajime no Ippo manga or what

thoughts on
- ippo's long retirement and how long til he makes a comeback
- the weird thing where ippo can't get with kumi even after like 40 years, cos it would "end the manga" but also probably because he would stop being as identifiable to all the cels who are reading
- sendo vs ricardo match predictions

You are back with your old profile picture.

I only watched anime more than a decade ago, I liked it at the time.

i was really into it years ago, stopped reading it at ch 1140~ or so because there were no more chapters

I'll definitely find time to read it, I'm even thinking of restarting it all

As a long HNI fan i can tell you my thoughts.

- Retirement arc, was too long. It was not a bad idea per-se, but at this point it's just kind of pointless. The series name is HNI not Hajime no takamura, sendo, etc. Secondary characters are just that, secondary. I don't give that much of a crap about them. I want to see ippo fight. I've been reading the manga on and off and been quite dissapointed with it as of late. It dosn't help that the secondary character fights take about 4 months of real time if we are being generous to complete.

- The kumi thing is really weird. Like so many years and they did not even kiss? wtf? At this point there's a better chance of him kissing miyata (HNI sasuke) over kumi and it would make more sense, dude is gay or something.

- Sendo vs ricardo should end with Ricardo's victory. If sendo won it would be peak bad writting, i already thought about it and i'm not going to read a single episode if that comes to pass.

yeah it is pretty damn long and it definitely made people mad
i guess it's just how older mangakas do things sometimes, certain arcs just take too long, i heard it's not uncommon

i think this is somewhat common too in manga, i genuinely think it's also avoided cause it would make the main character less relatable to many readers if he's got a perfect romance going on

that's the consensus yeah, but the anticipation is still crazy

He has bills to pay, is quite old and i'm sure has more things to worry about. It makes sense really.

I mean, it's insane at this point. They know each other for a loong while and they did not even kiss. Why introduce romance as an option then? More so he's a somewhat chad boxer and has women clearly interested in him. Plus his friends do well with women.

Yeah, i just hope he doesn't fumble. A recent twit he made he commented on how he changed the outcome of certain fights

You should have seen what happened to the Amano Megumi manga tbh, the author basically made a 6 year manga about a guy in college getting teased by his female classmate with it being obvious since Chapter 1 that they are supposed to be a couple soon. Then they never even kiss during the entire 6 year manga, and after serialization ended, a secret final chapter was released and they didn't do anything in it either :lul:

I think mangakas just have a fetish for this thing, either that or their editors have given them instructions that it has to be like this. Editors can have quite strong influence, for instance they stopped Araki from doing a female Jojo in Part 5 or at least that's how I recall it.

This is fucking insane, lmao

Editors can be quite a pain, they more often than not limit the creative thinking of authors
