As a child, although I rarely ever watched anime, whenever I did, I was never under the impression that the characters were Asian at all.

I always saw anime characters for what they really were. Either a desire to be White or the fact that Caucasian features are regarded as the most attractive.

Did anyone else think the same?

I read some cope about this, how those characters are supposedly not representing whites but are a sort of race of their own. There's even a term for this if i remember correctly, but i forgot.
