Furthermore, I suspect that alternate history is blasphemy, as history is what Allah has willed to happen.
 
AFAIK, the genre's basically dead compared to when I was a kid, so I guess a lot of people are starting to look at it like that.

Really? I thought it was more popular than ever thanks to HoI4 and other grand strategy games going mainstream

Fair point, I meant more so the wikis, forums and blogs you saw in the early 2010s and such, where people would basically write novels online and fill it with custom maps to show what was happening, that scene's at least moribund if not completely dead compared to where it once was. For example, if something like the Chaos Timeline gets created again, it will almost certainly be because of the strategy games you've mentioned, not because a guy on some forum created it.
