The world is now in a liquidation phase. And we are rubbish. Acknowledging this situation can spare one a great deal of suffering.
The population that has bred excessively since the Industrial Revolution will be cleared out. This brief span of five hundred years is a rarity in human history — one that gave people the illusion of infinite progress. That illusion is now coming to an end.
The invention of AI has rendered the vast majority of people utterly devoid of existential value. Machines replaced physical labor; AI has now replaced intellectual labor. All that remains is genetic value: the production of talented offspring through seemingly random combinations. When scientists finally crack the mystery of genetics, humans will become gods.

In more developed regions, population clearing will be achieved through slowly declining birth rates. This will create a huge number of incels. Even a seemingly painless, slow extinction will bring immense suffering. People are offered entertainment and copes like religion. They are expected to live a life of moderate comfort and produce zero offspring. Most importantly, they shall not cause any trouble for the elite.
In underdeveloped regions, it will likely be achieved through all-out religious or ethnic warfare, as in parts of Africa.
Will the population being cleared fight back? They can only mount lone-wolf-style counterattacks, or elect leaders like Trump. These leaders will provide the illusion of "rebellion".
