The way I interpret religion is that community is a big part of why people start to believe.
The desire for belonging is so strong within us, that if belonging ment you had to say "I believe Jesus walked on water", you would say so.
But today that community isn't there anymore, there is mostly just old people going to church.
So there is no incentive for younger people to say they believe in those things.
