I read a WW2 Panzer general on the Eastern Front spoke about four types of officers:

i). Stupid and lazy - leave them alone, they do no harm.

ii.) Stupid and hard working - make them into staff officers.

iii.) Intelligent and hard working - these were to be transferred outside of the division immediately. They caused massive harm.

iv.) Intelligent and Lazy - these are the stars. Promote them.

Any explanation for this? Is it bc it would look bad for the higher ups if they're lazy?

Tbh a reasonable explanation would be that they caused more harm to the enemy by not being wasted dying in battle but that's probably not what he meant

That is what you want for managers. Like imagine you are the manager of a restaurant. Just let the staff do their thing, and even if there is problems if you are lazy you hope they just go away, which they usually do, people sort things out themselves.

There was no explanation. The Panzer Division was fighting on the Eastern front so the pressure was on and the General must have had his reasons.

He didn't say how hard working or how lazy but he was adamant that intelligent and hard working had to be transferred out of the division immediately because they caused big problems.

It could be because intelligent and hard working never seem to aim for simplicity and prefer complexity upon complexity. I've seen this happen on software projects. There is a saying in programming that the best line of code is the one you don't write. It doesn't mean cramming lots of logic in a single line but thinking carefully how to write code and to use an existing library function or even if a program needs to be written and some bugs can't be fixed because it would impact the logic in other programs and break them.

This is just my opinion.

I've read a few books on the Eastern Front in WW2 and that's one of the paragraphs that stuck in my mind but I forgot which general said it. No point making a guess as I don't remember.

I’d like to believe I’m 4 but I’m prolly just 1 :fuk:
