Let's say that after death everyone's souls gets recycled totally randomly and indiscriminately (after his death, Bill Gates exits the vagina of some random indigenous villager as a newborn girl). Social status, age of death, manner of death, morality, and criminal status have no bearing over the result. A villain can be reincarnated into wealth and a virtuous person can be reincarnated into poverty and illness. In this hypothetical scenario you, yes only you get the privilege of keeping all ur past life's memories. Would you blow ur brains out or rope rn to see if you'll win the lottery (gigachad) or at the very least not live a life as terrible as this one?

I don't have much faith in my luck. I'd probably end up worse off than I am now

Considering my luck i'll be stuck in a loop of reincarnations which are all incel lives, so no i don't really expect much from it

Surely 2nd option, get bitcoin, if I have subhuman genetics I atleast know how to looksmaxx starting from a young age (growth hormones, working out, good diet etc.) and I'll enjoy all the JB foids

whatever luck debuffs are haunting u now will be removed by a witch with a big Ranni hat. the worse ur life is rn the more u stand to gain objectively speaking (unless ur totally petrified over the fact that ur sex and especially ur ethnicity are subject to change).

ppl post "rate her" or "you'll never have this" threads in ID nowadays (mods are dead) so idgaf anymore.

for every billionaire gigachad there's a million impoverished slaves who know only ever known hardship. What good will knowing the BP do here?

the memory part isn't about BP knowledge it's to ensure u live a second live. if u don't have ur memories ur basically dead.

So she's sad but acts happy? Jfl at foids being sad.
i think she was an orphan and her adoptive father raised her up to be a strong famous exorcist, then as a test to rank up or some shit he cast a spell on her that embodied the Experience machine philosophy test.
Nozick describes a machine that could provide whatever desirable or pleasurable experiences a subject could want. In this thought experiment, psychologists have figured out a way to stimulate a person's brain to induce pleasurable experiences that the subject could not distinguish from those they would have apart from the machine. He then asks, if given the choice, would the subject prefer the machine to real life?

Nozick also believes that if pleasure were the only intrinsic value, people would have an overriding reason to be hooked up to an "experience machine", which would produce favorable sensations.

The argument

[edit]
The argument is along these lines:

  • Premise 1: If experiencing as much pleasure as we can is all that matters to us, then if we will experience more pleasure by doing x than by doing y, we have no reason to do y rather than x.
  • Premise 2: We will experience more pleasure if we plug into the experience machine than if we do not plug into the experience machine.
  • Conclusion 1: If experiencing as much pleasure as we can is all that matters to us, then we have no reason not to plug into the experience machine. (P1&P2)
  • Premise 3: We have reason not to plug into the experience machine.
  • Conclusion 2: Experiencing as much pleasure as we can is not all that matters to us. (C1&P3, by Modus tollens)

Reasons not to plug in

[edit]
Nozick provides three reasons not to plug into the machine.

  1. We want to do certain things, and not just have the experience of doing them.
    • "In the case of certain experiences, it is only because first we want to do the actions that we want the experiences of doing them or thinking we’ve done them." [1]: 43 [a]
  2. We want to be a certain sort of person.
    • "Someone floating in a tank is an indeterminate blob...Is he courageous, kind, intelligent, witty, loving? It’s not merely that it’s difficult to tell; there’s no way he is. Plugging into the machine is a form of suicide." [1]: 43
  3. Plugging into an experience machine limits us to a man-made reality (it limits us to what we can make).
    • "There is no actual contact with any deeper reality, though the experience of it can be simulated." [1]: 43

Additionally

[edit]
These are not quoted by Nozick himself, but rather other philosophers who have come up with or shared additional reasons.

  • Status Quo Bias, humans tend to dislike change, especially when considering the thought of having to be prodded with wires.[4]: 139
  • We would never see our real family and friends again, although unbeknownst to us.[5]: 383
  • The concept of free will becomes murky.[4]: 142
  • Previous experiences with technological failure; people don't trust machines.[6]

Argument against hedonism

[edit]
Hedonism states that the things in life worth pursuing are the highest good, or the things that will make one happiest both long term and short term. Happiness is the highest value in human life. The Experience Machine is hedonistic, and yet people still refuse to be plugged in for the reasons listed above. Therefore, a conclusion is made that being personally happy is not the greatest value everyone carries.[7]
When she failed he kicked her out, stripped her of her rank and abandoned her. No allies, no family I think she became a hobo and basically she followed the main character (velvet) around to pass the time.

If that were the case i would still live the remainder of this life to see where it goes, probably nowhere but dying is still scary

No matter. A Chad with my knowledge would be insanely powerful.
don't underestimate your memories.

that information would not change when i am going to kill myself. maybe just maybe if my depression gets fixed and then i would research into reincarnation. but if that happened then i would not be killing myself either way

1/6 chance of being reborn as a pajeet

I WOULD JUST ROPE UNTIL I BECOME CHAD OVER AND OVER

I'll rope, and go check my acquaintance reaction to it.

I reroll immediately until i pull a chad face and height or born into a billionaire family

u only retain ur memory of this life. if u rope a second time ur basically dead for good since not having ur memories is the same thing as not existing.

even if each reincarnation was limited to humans, I still don't have a good chance of becoming chad. but ehh, anything but this

the 50% chance of becoming a foid and an almost guaranteed race swap is quite fearsome.
