The crisis in the dating market has multiple causes, but I would like to address the demographic factor, specifically how education plays a role.
There is an imbalance in the sex ratio and an increase in the number of men and women who no longer live in the same areas. In many countries, particularly in the West, women are more likely to live in urban areas because more of them pursue careers in health, education, media, social work, and other people-oriented fields and have higher rates of university enrollment and graduation especially because the education system favors feminine behaviors because they tend to be more attentive and malleable.
In contrast, men, especially those without higher education, are more likely to stay to rural or suburban areas , work in manual or commercial occupations (like construction, agriculture, manufacturing), which don't necessarily require moving to the city. Men also have lower economic mobility, making moving to the city less feasible.
Thus, many cities end up with a surplus of educated women, while rural areas have a surplus of men !!!
There is an educational gap that plays a central role in partner choice: hypergamy shows that women often prefer partners with higher levels of education and economic status. As more and more women surpass men in terms of educational attainment, this reduces the pool of what they consider acceptable partners, particularly for highly educated women. All of this leads to increased competition in the dating market and loneliness among men living in rural areas, some of whom feel left behind or disconnected from this world. Dating apps, which in theory eliminate geographical separation, only amplify sorting based on social status.
And it's getting worse and worse, buddy boys, the projections aren't good :
