water is wet: the primary driver of lookism has been the education of women; education disfavours men and increases the standards of women ridiculously
Education disproportionately favours women because women get coddled
In the modern western world 'young men are more likely than young women to lack an upper secondary qualification, with an OECD average of 14.4% for men and 11.1% for women'.
Additionally, in OECD countries '41.9% of 25-34 year-old men attained tertiary education, while 54.8% of 25-34 year-old women attained tertiary education' (1).
This plainly states that women have a higher educational attainment than men. An elementary corollary to this is that, as women are instinctually inclined to hypergamy - that is to say marrying up in terms of wealth, status and education - , and as they are guided by the semi-universal human principle of assortative mating, not every woman will be able to attain a partner who meets her standards, as the pool of men who are equally educated to women is smaller, and thus a rise in singlehood is to be expected from many women obstinately choosing to remain single rather than dating a lesser educated male. This much has been observed. This is despite the general decline in educational hypergamy, and the rise in educational hypogamy (naturally, relations between men and women where women possess a higher educational qualification) and homogamy (where they possess the same qualifications). Starting from people born during the 1960s, 'hypogamous unions have become common and indeed, the modal union type' between men and women (2). Nonetheless, in all relationships, including hypogamous relationships, men are the breadwinner by a greater margin than can be explained by the gender wage gap. That means they earn much more than their wives regardless. In hypogamous relationships, non-college men paired with college women are the higher-earning subset of their group. This suggests hypergamous forces are still at play.
So, in a typical hypogamous relationship, while the man is contributing more to society, this is not recognised, unlike the woman who possesses a more prestigious qualification and job title. She is essentially superior in education-specific status. This of course leads to non-traditional gender dynamics and roles (such as the man being expected to do more domestic chores), that can in turn precipitate deviant gender roles and even the pretension of degenerate identities such as transsexualism or non-binarism in either partner. The strain that this puts on these marriages results in a higher divorce rate, especially when the women are the breadwinners, as proven by a French study (3). This is despite France's highly egalitarian nature, and the effects of this are not fading in younger cohorts. So it also makes women unhappy and unsatisfied with their partners , and these women will then cause domestic disputes .
Naturally, not all women are choosing to remain single in hope for hypergamy. Many are compromising on educational symmetry. This means that, in order for a man to compensate for his diminished qualifications comparative to a woman, he must earn more. However, in the modern day, the safety net for men who are less educated has been reduced, for most jobs involving man's aptitude for strength have been automated, and as such the remaining jobs are paid a lower wage. Additionally, menial jobs such as in trades, hospitality, cleaning, etc, are becoming highly competitive due to the massive rate of immigration in western countries, further exacerbating this.
Thus many men are not able to compensate in this manner. If he cannot, then it is likely he must compensate through other means, such as through physical traits favoured and selected for by women, such as height, attractiveness, status, skills, etc. For example, for short-to-medium-height men, an increase in physical stature drastically lowers the income threshold required for them to be considered attractive by women (4). This has placed an emphasis on traits that heretofore has essentially never been seen before, as men could attract women with their qualitatively higher baseline status, employment and education; women had to pair with men for various forms of security.
As women are the limiting factor in relationships (if we refer back to Bateman's law) , these trends have increased the size of the stratum of men who are not able to avail themselves of any mating opportunities whatsomever (us incels). I think it's readily apparent that this shift from male educational dominance to female educational dominance has been the primary driver in the appearance of the issue of lookism, and a significant driver in the increased prevalence of short-term relationships
Additionally, every year of female education slashes fertility rates by ~0.3 babies per woman (5). This has lead to the decline and fall of western civilisation as we know it, and the erosion of western culture as we have to import immigrants in lieu of our missing children in order to maintain our economies and welfare states , feeding into the state of disadvantaged and unemployed young men and exacerbating hypergamy and the sexual market
the ONLY solution to this is to completely ban secondary and tertiary education for women
