Windows 11 only caused me trouble
reinstall the older version on the install disk that your product key came with (assuming you installed it yourself) and run this in administrator command prompt afterwards (don't forget to back up any important files before proceeding):
this will delete the windows update service from your computer
if you want to minimize telemetry you can also do this (also in admin command prompt):
sc delete wuauservthis will delete the windows update service from your computer
