I asked my sister why women's haircuts are more expensive than men's, because to me it seems like women's hairdressers just chop off the ends of women's hair.
My sister responded that cutting women's hair is much more involved than it seems, because it involves a process known as "layering". Layering is basically the process of cutting hair in such a way that the hair is made thin near the ends, and left thick near the roots.
Why is it considered more beautiful for a woman's hair to be thin at the ends? Because it is something that naturally occurs in teenaged girls. The head of a female child is small and so it has few follicles, whereas the head of an adult female is larger and so it will have more follicles. And so a female who has recently gone through puberty will naturally have hair that is thicker near the roots and thin at the ends.
