I don't think they entirely lacked the capability to at least parade some tanks, because smaller towns in Russia had tanks in parade during the victory parade.

Now they're thanking North Korea for liberating Russia. I am supportive of North Korea, but thanking North Korea publicly is undermining yourself (if you're Russia).

Russia is an autistic country. All it has as allies are a bunch of African backwaters, to which it forgives billions of dollars in debt, North Korea, from which it buys shells and soldiers, and basically everything else. China and India buy oil at a discount. And while China pays in yuan, which can still be used or exchanged, the Indians pay in rupees, which cannot be converted into anything. Russia is a geopolitical loser. Get more sanctions than anyone in human history, lose the gas and oil market in Europe, lose your entire professional army, and lose a million people in 3.5 years of a useless war, and lose Syria and its military bases in a week, for which Russia spent years bombing the Syrian opposition and supporting the creepy dictator Assad.

This excuse wasn't perfect, it didn't mean a lot for Russian people, especially for ordinary people. Just the 'turbo-patriotic' part of society (according to VCIOM, around 20% of population) talked about need of bombing Kiev for, like, 2 days. Victory day is much more important for Russian people than you can imagine.

There is a really long answer to this... First, I recommend reading 'From Stalin to Kim Il Sung: The Formation of North Korea, 1945-1960' by Andrei Lankov. Second, to put it in a nutshell, there are several reasons to China having no point in making North Korea a puppet state during that time.

1) North Korean government mostly consisted of Soviet Koreans, who, obviously, wouldn't give up their power peacefully, meaning the Chinese had to do it with force. As Mao was Stalin's young brother, he didn't want to destroy relations with him over nothing.

2) They already had enough of influence on Korea. There are indicators that they had spies all over Korean communist party, they had their army on Korean land, they sent help to Korea, this is more than enough to ensure that Korea wouldn't do something overly stupid.

3) Mao believed in world revolution, so there's no need to make puppet states.

4) Taiwan and limited resouces. When your own country consists of hundreds of millions poor peasants and there's an alternative government on the island, there are much better ways of spending resources than making a puppet. Moreover, intensifying the Korean conflict could make the US give more aid and support to Taiwan. The latter was the reason why Mao hadn't want the Korean war in the first place.
