They are republics with elected representatives (who don't really run the government but act as puppets to the general public, although they also benefit from their role). Taxes are needed in a civilized society to help the government pay for roads, social programs for families, healthcare, architecture, etc. In our modern day society we are taxed on everything and pay taxes to degenerate garbage we don’t want.
