Apart from that, I think they need something/someone to worship because that's human nature.
Because our modern Western system has virtually eliminated God and replaced Him, among other things, with these false idols, we are experiencing this phenomenon today.

Even in my generation (I'm 37), we've long since grown up with TV and other mass media. Consumerism, actors, sportsman and musicians were the idols.
This applies equally to 50-year-old normies.
This whole mess has been going on at least as long as (popular) feminism has existed.
