Autists usually enjoy studycelling and sweat hard in academics without need for prior input. But as soon as a third party tells them they ‘must study’ and must ‘work hard’, they somehow burn out immediately and play videogames all day instead.

It basically went from a doable grind to pretty much impossible. Even doing 1 page of revision is aids

top tier students do get real motivation, they get taken out to dinners after they get some prize or achievement, they go to competitions and events, they're treated like royalty by professors and parents. your mom keep taking out your chunk of paper saying you got 1st place and showing it to people.

now, if you don't get any of that, then there is no reason to try hard. you're just running in place for nothing.

i've seen a small inkling of that lifestyle of the top tier student when i was a kid. and i saw how others get treated. it's a whole different world.

It’s the same thing that is happening with coding + ops. What used to require real domain knowledge like installing, config, wiring things together now you just ask Grok to do it in a web terminal and it’s done,
10 minutes later and you’re staring at state of the art Sora-level stuff while most of the population would experience problems if they don't have knowledge with the setup itself, grok walks you through it. Of course it has limits but even 2 years ago it was outside of the realm of reality. It will happen sooner than expected especially those meaningless degrees. 'Muh my work always requires a human touch is what my boss said'.

over-achievers suck up to the teachers, the teachers give the over-achievers better grades, and later during college years there are important opportunities for working with your professors, such as receiving recommendations, or being included in important projects when each professor can only lead a limited number of master/PhD students
