Why are some Americans so obsessed with ancestry?

Interesting behavior I have observed with Americans claiming to be of several nationalities and sometimes wacky combinations like "yeah I'm Irish-Spanish-Dutch-Nigerian-Lebanese" :feelshaha: And doing lots of genetics ancestry tests, hanging flags of their ancestors, etc.

While it's interesting to know the family history it seems kinda cringe too and a bit tryhard, also just because your great great great great great grandfather came from Dublin that doesn't make you Irish :feelsjuice: Is it just Americans trying to be a minority and getting privileges? Why some make ancestry such a big deal and a personality trait? Has media conditioned people to do this?

BTW this is not exclusive from the US as I've seen it happen in some parts of Latin America, particularly those with higher immigration. But seems to be more exaggerated in the US. This fucking meme summing it up is so funny :feelskek:

Americans are crazy

Same reason why DNA tests are so popular here

Insecurity in general, lack of identity

Never began for nations that are mongrelized and proud of it.

It's because they have no real national identity, so they cope like that.

Basically this. We could have a national identity, but tptb (politicians, corporations) cannot properly sell it to their base so they work to destroy it.

So companies that do these “genetic analyses” swoop in and offer to classify you into different countries of ancestry to give people a sense of identity. Even though humans probably all share common ancestors, and some just don’t want to admit it. “Your genes were in this country at a certain point in time, so we’re going to say you’re *insert nationality here.* Nooo you can’t ask ‘where were they 1000 or 10,000 years before!’ Just take on this arbitrary identity we are selling to you!!”

Fucking stupid.

If only I had a dollar everytime some burgerlander tried LARPing as Italian or Irish. It’s just so embarrassing seeing them cope so hard. :feelshaha:

Name one multicultural country where this worked
I’m saying it could work in the US and seemed to for periods of time, before politicians and corporations instigated division to keep people angry and voting for them.

Their ancestors fucked up coming to burgerland in the first place tbh, it was a selfish decision with no regard for future generations.
They wanted native pussy.

Irish/Italian Americans are even more patriotic about Ireland/Italy than the national Irish/Italians themselves.

“Irish roots” I find this hilarious. If you go back in time a little farther, their roots become somewhere else. But “Irish” is trendy to be so they arbitrarily stop there and give people that identity. As if their ancestors at some point were magically materialized there from thin air, and there was nobody before that.

>Irish American - Never been to Ireland, no gaelic spoken
>Italian American - Thinks pizza was invented in burgerland
I bet there are more IRA supporters and larpers in the US than in the island of Ireland (Republic and Northern Ireland)

Lmfao honestly I get asked this question during small talk like getting my haircut at the barber, its so pointless I could claim a wide variety of races and just pretend to be a mix of them.

I am just going to start making up combinations and say that I am half japanese and irish and just go with it to ease the social awkwardness and boredom for me :feelshaha:

I am out of pocket like that occasionally when I go out, I went to a store and the store lady asked to check my bag i said something to the effect of "oh sorry I can't let you since there is a bomb in there" I said it politely with a sorry and just walked off lol. I could not be bothered opening my bag to show absolutely nothing.

Although I really should shopliftmaxx

I am guilty of this myself. I never took a dna test because I feel like it's pretty obvious I'm mostly Irish and English based on the way I look and the way my family looks.

Personally I don't know why anyone would be proud of Irish ancestry, I don't really like people of Irish descent. They don't even have a great history.

I think spain is cool, my great grandfather was from spain, so I focus on that and not the other 87+% of my genes which you can tell by looking at me.

For the same reason why girls like astrology, it's just fun in some way, it gives them an extra extension of identity in some sense and of course maybe some people simply want to understand their ancestry, since America is known as the melting pot, meaning it was founded by immigration and it therefore resulted in many Americans not understand what their roots are considering your next door neighbor can be ascendant of entirely different categories despite being the same color as you, the reason why you wouldn't understand is because you're probably from another country where the a population is a single culture and gene pool whereas the US consists of many of them.

Other than that I see people of other countries like Ireland, Russia, and viking descent countries, Native Americans emphasizing their ancestors and ancestries, so I don't get why it's such a bad thing for non-indigenous Americans to do the same.

What happened to your manly consoomer thread, I can’t find it.

Because they are so muttified(consequence of nigger worship) even they don't know what they are now. That's why they claim everything.

Yanks are obsessed with race. And the less white you are, the more victim points you have. It's all a grift by the rich to keep the poor from coming for them.

It's because white Americans are boring and bland, so they try to make their meaningless lives as consoomers more interesting.

there was a time not long ago in usa where certain people stayed with what they were like german with german and polish with polish. they even used to teach their kids born here german or whatever. sure a slight difference from europe language if i remember right. research it. around the boomers age or so basically said fuck all that and they did not teach their kids how it used to be. they or their kids race mix. basically forget what they were. not that anyone here actually cares about this history.

About 50% of this forum, hahahahah, good to see someone who realizes how mentally straning and slightly pathetic it is, perhaps even homosexual it is. Think about it, you're proud of something (you didn't work for) (you didn't do) (you were born with) you're proud that some guy hundreds of years ago had a bunch of sex! (You're not him)

It's just a cope. I'm not talking about just calling someone a racial slur, like nigger, kike, mutt.
I'm talking about people who have full length conversations and arguments over "muh heritage" "muh pride as a _______" Who gives a fuck you're going to die.

I've noticed this too. And yes it is super retarded. When I was younger (teens) I was exactly like you described. My sister did one of those DNA tests (fuck her for giving our families DNA to Jews btw) and it was exactly what I thought. Like 75% Irish and then the rest was beaner and some other shit. I really couldn't give a fuck anymore. I'm a proud AMERICAN and a proud CALIFORNIAN. All other countries are gay as fuck
