Interesting behavior I have observed with Americans claiming to be of several nationalities and sometimes wacky combinations like "yeah I'm Irish-Spanish-Dutch-Nigerian-Lebanese"
And doing lots of genetics ancestry tests, hanging flags of their ancestors, etc.
While it's interesting to know the family history it seems kinda cringe too and a bit tryhard, also just because your great great great great great grandfather came from Dublin that doesn't make you Irish
Is it just Americans trying to be a minority and getting privileges? Why some make ancestry such a big deal and a personality trait? Has media conditioned people to do this?
BTW this is not exclusive from the US as I've seen it happen in some parts of Latin America, particularly those with higher immigration. But seems to be more exaggerated in the US. This fucking meme summing it up is so funny
