I am not a historiasn of Eastern Europe so I am confused. According to online searches Russians(white) originated in the area today called Scandinavia. Okay that makes them Germanic or Viking in origin?

So if they originate from there then why are they today Slavic?

Just asking for a friend. Dont get upset by such low iq questions it because my friend is ethnic and knows zero about Slavic history.

Russians are eastern slavs. Similar to Ukrainians and Belorussians.

Okay so the Russian person today is a result of slavic migration. That stuff I read about vikings and so on is now probably irrelevant because of demographics, marriage etc.
Okay so if the information you linked is correct then modern Russians are actually related to Polish, Ukranians etc.

I recently learned that "yougoslav" (I know Yougoslavia doesn't exist anymore, but bear with me) means "slav of the South". And that "belorussian" means "white Russian".

It's crazy how we can use words without having any idea about their etymology.

What are slavic people, anyway? I guess I could look it up but meh, I can't bother.

Okay nice one thanks for the info.

Obviously slavs are an ethnicity. Example in Africa there are Bantu with huge lips and noses then there are Cushites(Horn of Africa), Khoi-San, Niolites(realy tall)

All dark skin but different ethnicity. Cushite and Khoi have no Bantu admixture and distinct to each other as well but still black skin.

So Italians are Meds not Germanic but similar looking to all Europeans like Germanics and Slavs.

Okay that is my ethnic reasoning of who slavs are without knowing their history.

Slavic ethnogenesis still causes much debate to this day. There are plenty of theories from where slavs came from. Also Vikings/Germanic people don't share common ancestry with Slavs, so Russians can't be germanic, and place of origin doesn't matter as much as humans as a species lived nomadic lifestyle for the most part of pre-history.
However, Vikings (Varangians) played an imporant role in establishing the Kievan Rus, they found it in IX th century and ruled it. The principal dynasty of Kievan Rus' and its successor states - Rurikids- were of Viking ancestorship. It was similar situation like with Franks in Gaul or Visigoths in Iberian peninsula.

The original Rus vikings conquered slavic tribes and ruled as Elites, there was noway near enough of them to have much of a genetic impact.
That is what I have gathered from a watching history videos and stuff on YouTube so might to be 100% correct

Okay so from I understand the Vikings founded the kingdoms. But like America just because whites founded America does not mean they will still be there in 500 years. Their mixed children and the handful of whites will remain.

So Eastern European kingdoms were probably founded by Vikings but that is about all. With time
, migration , intermarriage , race mixing the people in that region became unique unto themselves.

Hmm so Germanics were always ruling over slavs. Looking at the history of Russian royalty they were all Germans, the British Royals are Germans, the French Royals were Germans etc etc
