Because those games are so far ahead of everything else for me. Little console games or computer games I thought were fun and played for a month or two here and there are nothing compared to the years I spent playing the first 2, and 3 and 4 were my childhood as well as historically significant games. Ultima Online kick started the whole genre of MMORPGs and Quakeworld was the first competitive FPS game and legendary itself.

Risen was short and it went downhill near the end but I somewhat like it more than gothic 3 vanilla(gothic 3 with the community patch turns it into a gothic game and then its better than risen). I also did love the stalker series too so maybe there is some Russian in me somewhere from my grandpas side.

I was a little late to the party. I started playing it around 97-98. My uncle gave me an old gaming pc. My first video game at the age of 6 was the very not child friendly Police Quest 4...
What makes Arena so amazing to me is that it's exhilarating to explore if you're patient. You never know what you will find in the wilderness or in a dungeon. The fact that death comes so easily keeps you on your toes. Even today, I still get chills playing it.
