Hogwarts seems very accepting, not at all like real school. The only real bullies are the Slytherins, but even when Neville gets bullied by them there's usually a house member to back him up. I get why J. K. Rowling was so successful. Reading the books almost lets me forget my current situation and really believe I'm in that world.

The women in the series do act in a hypergamous way. But nowhere near as much as real life. This was also the 90s so things are different now.

that's true. if there was complete equality in Hogwarts, it would feel too unrealistic. But it's still not as extreme as real life. For example, in book 4 most people managed to find a date to the yule ball. If it was real life I think a not insignificant amount of girls would rather go alone than go with someone they deem undesirable.
