Merchants can control people by offering them value, but of course as a consequence get targeted due to envy and covetousness, but merchants have no substantial incentive to cohere into guilds, so I would be safe from barbarism and still live in luxury but I would be prone to falling into honor killing still, ideally, I would try to be a preist, by preist I don’t mean an actual catholic preist or smth, I mean a member of a priesthood, and by a priesthood, I mean an lower tier aristocrat or middleman elite, basically a bunch of intellectuals who conspire together to give everyone the same story and use the same shibboleths and Orders, it wasn't uncommon for a lucky amicable merchant to luck out with preisthood.
