In prehistoric times only 1 in 17 men or so reproduced. Human civilization was essentially a beta uprising that distributed women somewhat fairly (1 man 1 wife) among the male population. Ever since the sexual revolution in the 1970s we're now seeing the dissolution of civilization and the return to prehistoric times with the top percentages of men having harems and the bottom percentages having nothing.
