We need more Zelda 1 clones

Metroidvanias are Zelda clones to an extent as both Metroid and Castlevania Symphony of the Night were attempts to create a 2d Zelda. However, the formula of a large interconnected dungeon is very tedious imo. Especially in a 2d formula. The backtracking becomes obnoxious. I think that the OG formula Zelda 1 introduced of having this world you explore where you find individual dungeons in is much better and more enjoyable.

I've never particuarly liked the OG Zelda tbh, it was just too cryptic and the broken english translation didn't help. ALttP perfected the Zelda formula

I agree, but Zelda 1 created the main formula which Link to the Past uses. That's why I labeled it the Zelda 1 formula.

Funny how plenty of wisdom tree games ripped off other more famous games, like how super 3D Noah's ark rips off doom

I feel like Zelda 1 is a product of its time, players didnt mind the cyptictness of the game since there weren't as many expectations in games as there are now, since games on this scale were still new and exciting people didnt mind exploring every possible solution to something even if seemingly nonsensical. Plus I imagine it was fun to talk about with friends and family(not like we would have many to play with but the point is the same) and share secrets and discoveries, but nowadays everyone could just look everything up online which kind of takes away the mystery and the magic people probably felt playing the game when it was first released
