The main reason why physical game discs are getting ditched is not because of the ever-increasing file sizes, but because reading from disc is much, much slower than from SDD. (which are in both the ps5 and XBSX) If a company even bothers with doing a physical release, you'll still have to download it to your ssd to even play the game. Yeah sure it *can* run from disc but loading times will be incredibly long
also I actually had Ps3 Minecraft as a kid..... I just think 360 has the superior cover art. Doesn't really matter, they're basically the same game except with a different control scheme. Minecraft truly peaked here, PC had java edition, consoles had their own versions and mobile had their shitty little pocket edition if you wanted to play on a tiny iphone 5c for some reason. 4J studios went out of their way to fine-tune every little detail for the console they were making it on. It's really subtle but if you've ever played it on original hardware you'll see what i mean. The UI was quick and perfect for the analog control scheme. You'd never run into any issues or bugs or lag or anything like that, just an extremely well-made product. And the minigames were absolutely top notch. Instead of stealing from whatever was popular at the time, they created their own unique minigames that were always online. Of course you had your spleef and hunger games (which were very fun, they even gave you achievements for doing things in multiplayer!) but you had brand-new ones like Glide which used the console-exclusive mechanic of the camera turning as you rolled while in elytra. Every inch of this game was dripping with HEART and SOUL. Yeah yeah you still had your microtransactions but a few cross-over skins and mashup packs are nowhere near the predatory scummy slop that microsoft pushes in your face whenever you boot up ""Minecraft""" bedrock.
Look, I like crossplay as much as the next guy. I think it's awesome that you can play Minecraft with your friends no matter what platform you're on because some greedy exec doesn't want to co-operate. But they went about it in the worst way possible. They basically just put MCPE. No more fine-tuned controls, hello bugs and big ugly ui buttons to accommodate little Timmy playing on his mom's phone. You still can't put items in your off-hand on bedrock because mojang is too stupid to figure out how to make it work on mobile without messing everything up. Newsflash, mobile gaming and console gaming are completely different experiences and you should just give up on this whole thing. But nonono daddy microsoft NEEDS to scam as many kids as possible into buying "Badboy highschool skin pack" for $15. Also doesn't run on linux because FUCK YOU
