Usually, it's not mucus; the veins inside your nostrils blow up due to allergies, diseases, or in my case, simply humid weather. I have always suffered with that and mouthbreathed frequently as a kid due to it. Upon travelling to Europe, I realized my body was made for dry weather, not this jungle humid one.

I've applied Sudafed almost 5 times on the left nostril in less than 3 minutes. I think I'm going to overdose in the following hours.

I have much worse bouts when sick, including sometimes days of intermittent nausea and vomiting up when I have not consumed any significant amount of food; though your situation seems bad and probably doesn't feel all that well, I would gladly deal with a stuffed nose in return for no such upset stomach...
