News Transnistria is about to be invaded and annexed by Moldova

Both Ukrainian and Moldovan forces are preparing to attack Transnistria (Russian-aligned territory in Moldova)

Russia has been attempting to spearhead into Transnistria through Ukraine to prevent this from happening but they were unable to get that far and have been getting pushed back

(Transnistria is the tiny strip of land in the south between Moldova and Ukraine)

As of right now it looks like there’s nothing Russia can do to prevent Transnistria from being wiped off the map

All these shitty little ethnic exclaves Russia created during the USSR and uses as a political tool now are a really interesting concept but overall Transnistria isn’t a very useful thing to have, the plan was that it’d be the staging point for invading Moldova after they conquered Ukraine but that didn’t happen

Russia also claims that Moldova is preparing to rejoin Romania

Looks like Romania, Moldova, Ukraine and the US/UK are going to try to take over Transnistria. The Russian army there and the Transnistria army are going to have to fight it out.

They will attack in conjunction with Ukraine, Moldova doesn’t have much of a standing army so it’s effectively like Ukraine will conquer it for them

They held off on this until now because it wasn’t a strategic priority at the time; now that the Russian advance has all but completely run out of steam and their goal of advancing into Transnistria is basically fantasy, there’s practically nothing standing between Transnistria and complete destruction at this point (particularly since tensions are insanely high and the Moldovan government is getting bombed)
