Probably cats. They can be left alone if you want to go somewhere and they are independent just give them food and a clean litter box.

I'm conflicted on pets. Part of me wants some, because they're company. But, as stated in the thread, they're foul in terms of hygiene. I watch lots of animal and pet videos on Youtube. If you want clean pets, maybe some fish. I'd quite like a large fish tank in my bedroom, I think it would be therapeutic.
If you don't want to deal with their shit and stench, just be a modern, technology-addicted zombie and watch videos of pets instead, like I do.
