For real. Canonically, one in three people in the Chainsaw Man verse die to Devil attacks despite them being constantly hunted and fought, yet somehow being a Devil Hunter is a no-skill, low-status job comparable to being a sex worker (implied by what Kobeni says about having to decide between the two due to not receiving any support from her parents when it comes to getting into a university), with a notable amount of the ones we see being broken people from hopeless backgrounds. I mean, I'm sorry:feelshaha:? Realistically, being a Devil Hunter should have about as much prestige as being a doctor, a policeman and a soldier put together, if not more.

And that would be what average Devil Hunters would experience, not the enigmatic, mysteriously powerful attractive young women with inexplicably high-status in their organisation given their age, like Makima. Those would be absolute media darlings, and since late 90s, which is when the series takes place, was when the internet was just about completely unregulated and schizo ranters thrived, there should be like thousands of random websites consisting just of schizo rants about this mysterious young woman who seems to have come out of nowhere to lead the most important Devil Hunter division in Japan. Rumors of her immortality would definitely be spreading, and a couple of those schizos would certainly come creepily close to fully unearthing her true identity and nature.

It's even wilder since Denji, in his identity as Chainsaw Man, was a well-known celebrity often talked about on the TV even in Part One, and seeing a report on himself, and the way he was seen by random women, was one of the things that helped keep his morale up when he, Kobeni and Kishibe were on the run from Makima and preparing for the final clash with her, yet Makima herself, his superior, is never implied to be anything but obscure and unknown to the public?

Kobeni didn't want to be an prostitute because of some honor reasons. I am pretty sure, the last time I watched the show was like an year ago.

It's heavily implied that public safety knows that they have them over a barrel, so either accept the terms it gives you as a "devil hunter" or it will wipe you out for being a threat because of how you are imbued with a devil's abilities.

Also, Public Safety is very good at PR damage control. Anybody who tried spreading rumors about Makima being a devil would probably be written off as a loon, like an equivalent to Alex Jones. Even if there were people online and elsewhere who might have pieced things together, very few people would take them seriously.

Yeah, for the ones who get fused with devils, but for the people who just have a contract, or even don't, I would've expected them to be people joining for the prestige of it, but maybe my logic in comparing it to working as a doctor/policeman is a bit faulty:feelshaha:.

True. That's just something I randomly thought about when making this thread, since, given the time period, it would fit so well and make sense as well.

One thing that I found odd, though, is that Denji apparently cannot read based on Reze teaching him in the movie. Being illiterate in a very developed country like Japan would be a huge problem to the point to where I do not see how Denji could have even functioned in daily life.

At the very least, it would seem that Makima would start teaching him basic literacy or arrange for somebody to teach him at Public Safety so he could be a more effective agent like being issued orders in written or digital form or for the sake of basic life skills.

I'd murder and rape that bitch

I am more surprised how in the world of Chainsaw Man humanity is even alive and didn't go extinct a long time ago. With how hostile and powerful almost all devils are, they can wipe out humanity pretty easily but they haven't done so. So many primal devils and yet none of them destroyed the human race.

Yeah. Fujimoto wanted his background to be as bleak as possible, but making him illiterate as a teen in 90s Japan was probably a bit too much.

The former would be problematic, and she might enjoy the latter:worryfeels:.

This had me ruminating over it for about 20 minutes:feelshaha:. It's possible that the stronger and more intelligent devils are holding the others at least a bit under control so that humanity doesn't get wiped out, as its unclear whether they can exist without humans (somewhat implied as the prophecy hints that humanity would be wiped out and they would rule the world, but they did ultimately come from human fears), but that's just a fan theory I thought up right now and nothing like that was said in the series.

Could also be that they have no inherent desire to wipe out humanity and the clashes between the two species are basically just analogous to clashes between humans and predatory animals. Also, Fujimoto did a really smart thing by revealing that Pochita had already erased a lot of concepts and changed reality to a notable degree, so we can't even really know what the baseline that allowed humanity in Chainsaw Man to survive for so long and develop into a modern society really was.

The songs Kenshi Yonezu made for this series have been crazily blowing up.

From what I have seen, devils need humanity to dream them up into existence, and if humanity ceased to exist, so would devils, so devils are reliant on humans and their fears as well as being able to make deals with humans to give devils more agency in the world of humanity and human politics.

Many devils do not seem to be malicious or bear humanity any specific ill-will despite being born of human fears, and many powerful devils are just as much of a threat to other devils as they are to humans. As a result, devils can run an entire gamut as to how they feel towards humans. Some are evil, some are benign, and some are neutral.

Exactly. Their attitudes vary, and there's really no sense of "us vs them" in Chainsaw Man, at least from the devils' side. We are only now getting some of that with how Yoru is acting in the latest chapters and what she's saying, and even then that's mostly just from her, while the other devils get dragged along for a ride.

This is useful for me to know
