Unless I have some sort of head gear to cover my characters head and face. If I can see my characters face in a 3rd person game, it's impossible for me to have immersion since I can't place myself in their shoes (usually because I get mogged). Is this just me?

Nah its not just you, this is why i prefer first person games over third. Its just so much easier to self insert myself into the game and actually be immersed in it.

I dont really play alot of third person games anyway because of this

Idk I don't really care cause it's a video game it isn't real just remember that.

Hmmmmmm most games i have played were third person. I like them.

I returned RE4 remake because of it. Seeing the character I play as mogging me to oblivion made it literally impossible to get immersed.

I slightly prefer third person because I really like miniatures and when I was a kid I had lots of action figures and third person models remind me of those. I like inspecting the armor and clothing models, and to see the character immersed in the environment.

Strangely, I don't feel more immersed with first person, it doesn't do anything for me.

Interesting. I guess you view it as a customizable action figure that you can play as.

Yeah, that's how I usually feel. Conversely, when playing first person I never feel like I'm projecting myself into the character, or maybe only when it's a totally silent character.

I was just thinking if it could also be because I started gaming in the 8-bit era and back then and for several years after almost everything was essentially third person (although not with a behind camera). Back then a first person view was almost exclusively associated with vehicle simulators, etc.

What's more important is that their camera can properly clip through walls and is good at keeping a nice angle through which to see your character. Otherwise, might as well make it first-person instead.

Makes sense.

I don't need or want anything in games to be relatable.

There's a difference between relatable and wanting to imagine yourself in the position of a character in a game.

Nah, as long as they're not female or a man on steroids, I couldn't care less.

But I do prefer masked characters, especially if I'm playing a shooting or science-oriented game; it feels cooler.

Why do you need the character to be you though?

I don't mind 3rd person games, I can get immersed even if the character looks nothing like me. Also I usually avoid covering the characters face so I can see their facial expressions.

I don't think I've ever taken note of my own character's face when playing a third person game.

Only third person game I couldn't play was Haydee because you could only play it with one hand
