What should we do with this information?
To borrow an analogy from a truecel friend of mine, as an oldcel, I look at (most) zoomers the same way that a 50 year old WW2 veteran in 1970 looked at hippies. With an amalgamation of annoyance, disdain and confusion. Their complete lack of individuality, their formulaic and repetitive jokes, their smug attitudes, the fact that they all have some dogmatic belief that they are 100 percent confident in and vocal/strident about all because of something they read on the internet...I could go on and on about what I don't like about them.
But worse of all, I can't escape them. Most of my co-workers are zoomers. A disproportionate percent of the customers where I work are zoomers. On the internet things are even worse since most zoomers are terminally online and younger people tend to be more vocal and post more. Internet discourse is completely dead. If you express even the slightest bit of disagreement, they will either throw buzzword insults at you, sarcastically mock what they think your beliefs are (which almost always ends up being reductio ad absurdum) or they will simply repeat what they believe to be true with even more confidence. Actually, you don't even need to disagree...just ask them why they believe what they do and there's a good chance that you'll get one of these reactions.
I understand why zoomers are the way they are. Of course a generation that grew up with smartphones and social media, are isolated and lonely, and terminally online is going to be screwed up. But god damn are they annoying.
Yes, exceptional zoomers exist. I actually feel bad for them because they can't even relate to their peers. A good example is DBDR on youtube.
